  • Vibra Technics engine mounts....why? Alternatives?

Hello all, why are quite a few people using the Vibra Technics engine/gearbox mounts as I personally find them very harsh and they send vibration through the car and I can feel it through the steering. Has anyone purchased an alternative instead? I know Powerflex only stock the gearbox lower mount. What's wrong with genuine Ford items? Are they still available?
Any help and advise on this would be much appreciated.

    CheeRS. Lee.

I run standard engine mounts and just the vibratechnics lower torque mount. Its covered the weak point in the 3 mounts that way and there is no real vibrations. For a track car probably no good but it works for me on the road. The Powerflex lower mount isnt rated particularly highly and it usually ends up looking the same way as a standard one....broken.

Oh right ok Dan, I have a Powerflex mount in my spares funnily enough. I have the driver side mount is Vibra tech and gonna check the others but I have a strong feeling they are all Vibra Technics.
Ideally if my gearbox mount is Vibra Technics then I would prefer to remove the 2 Engine mounts and replace with new Ford mounts if they are available .
      Great advise Dan, thank you.

Seems you can get a Febi Bilstein left mount but the right mount seems to be a problem to get one. anyone replaced theirs with standard aftermarket mounts? Any help would be great as I'm at a bit of a loss with this one.

        Thanks. Lee.

Seems like after further investigation it is the lower gearbox mount that is available by Febi Bilstein amongst other makes but not the two top engine mounts? Can anyone help on this please? Anyone managed to get standard replacement o/e spec top engine mounts? Some help would be greatly appreciated.

I will give it a go today Lee.
Two engine mounts? There's only one engine mount, the top gearbox mount and the bottom gearbox mount (torque mount).

I'm pretty sure I have several used engine mounts stored, or are you only after new parts?

Found the top gearbox mount available by Febi Bilstein, part no. 22299 which is a direct replacement for Ford fin.code 1133020

Nice one Bart. I thought there were 3, the top left and right and the gearbox torque mount. Ah I saw the Febi Bilstein with that part number and thought it was the lower mount, clearly not then. So that is available then?

              Yes available.
As it's the only mount that is not RS specific, hence availability.

Right I have the other mount and some sort of bracket for top gearbox mount I think. I'm keeping my Vibra Tech lower torque mount as it's weak point. I will PM you now.

I think the Febi engine mount number is 22285 for a 1.8/2.0 zetec. Nothing special about it with regards to fitment but the RS was always listed as a separate number. Possibly stiffer internally?
I would have no issue fitting the above to a road car personally. I would be willing to bet its in better condition than a 22 y/o RS one anyway.

Great info there Dan. yes I am a bit weary of fitting my original engine mount for sure due to age and wear etc. Your right there, the RS version is probably stronger internally as you state, would make total sense.
I will put that part into e bay now see what comes up for me. Brilliant info there, thank you so much.

I found a brand new RS engine mount:

Am I reading that price right Bart?

                Cheers. Lee.
