  • Coolant leak rear of engine bay

Where is the most likely place for this to be coming from? There was nothing glaringly obvious.

It was my first drive today so I’m expecting a few issues that need sorting.

Check under the coil pack the plastic housing might be leaking , if not a hose might be leaking .

I would say its either the thermostat housing or the pipe coming off the back of it has split.

Are the water to air intercoolers common for failing. As I’m sure the coolant is disappearing from the reservoir and I’m getting white smoke out the exhaust also. I was thinking if this had failed internally and coolant was getting into the engine this could be the cause.

Hi, please check the blue silicone hoses first for antifreeze buildup. Did you touch the intercooler itself (maybe you took it off and filled it with antifreeze again incorrectly). If the pipes have deposits inside, wash them with water, wipe them clean, dry them and check them again, let the car warm up completely for a couple of days, drive around and check them.
Does the white smoke come from cold or after the car is warmed up too? I have white smoke on a fully functioning system when I just start the car (photo), after 5 minutes of warm up any smoke is gone. Could it be because it is cold at the moment? Start with that and let us know if the fouling appeared after washing the hoses and was there fouling when you took them off the first time? Send us a photo!

Regarding the photo with antifreeze leak, it is better to completely wash all traces, while the engine is a little warm, then start the engine and see in detail where the liquid is sucked from, wait for the engine to warm up completely. At the same time switch on the heater in the cabin on warm mode, I assume that it may be the heater hoses, which go under the blue silicone hose. There is also one water-to-air intercooler hose, although it does not have a strong pressure, I think it is still the main engine cooling system. In general, you have so much antifreeze in your photo that after washing you should immediately understand where the antifreeze is coming from. But warm up the engine to get the pressure up in the system and see...

I’m getting the smoke when warm and a misfire/stutter about 3-5k

I also have a P1115 code for intake air temp 2 circuit high input

Well, if it only smokes like that when the engine is cold, it's probably normal. And after warming up there is no smoke? In case of a leaking intercooler you will get antifreeze only if the air flow is strong enough, i.e. when driving. At idle speeds, I think, there will be no effect of antifreeze getting into the engine, there is no such strong pressure in the system to make it happen.

Slight update. I’ve definitely got a failed charge cooler after finally being able to investigate tonight.

I’ve managed to source a replacement secondhand unit so I’ve put that on I just need to do the pump and maybe radiator (not sure yet) and hopefully all is good.

Anyway I took my intercooler hoses off and found coolant in the hoses intercooler and turbo. All cleaned out and new unit fitted and it starts and runs fine now.
