  • Mk1 Focus RS won't start, help!

Hi, new to the forum and probably posting in wrong section etc!
My dad has a very low mileage Mk1 Focus RS, early build number garaged all its life and not used other than a rare start up.
It started up this time last year and ran fine, no issues, went to start it recently and it won't start.
    - engine spins over fine
    - there is spark at the plugs
    - replaced the plugs anyway
    - new fuel put in it
    - checked fuses
    - disconnected fuel supply and return at the fuel rail and with ignition on there's no fuel
    - I can't hear the fuel pump, but can't remember if I could here it last year!
    - checked inertia switch on drivers side kick Panel and button is in

I'm thinking fuel pump, but am an old school Ford man, and not clued up on anything more recent than the 80s!

    Any help appreciated
    thanks

Pump is probably stuck, common problem.
Lie down and give the tank a bang with your hand, it sometimes kicks them into life.

But it will need to be replaced as once they play up they usually do it again.

Hi, tried that, but can try again, should you be able to physically hear the pump?
      thanks

As said you can hear the pump prime, just turn the ignition without trying to start and you should hear the pump if working?

Can't hear the pump, just had the rear seat up and got the loom plug of the pump at the top of the tank, there's 12v going to the pump on ignition so think the pump may be at fault as you guys suggest.

Is it an easy job to do and are they still available?!

              thanks

I heard the original Ford pumps are no longer available but sure you will be advised of a good replacement.

You need to remove the fuel tank as the pump is located inside the tank, not a difficult job but you need a ramp.

                  Here are 2 links:

                  Std fuel pump

                  Uprated fuel pump

I'd suggest to change the fuel filter too (available from Ford).

Nothing to do with the GT alarm/immobilizer is it?

The additional alarm fitted to the UK cars?

Ordered pump and filter , I've got 12v at the pump so don't think it's the alarm, however did re - program the fob and made no difference, tank out it is then!
Thank you for all your comments and suggestions, will report back 🏼
